Founded in 1882, the Runge Independent School District is proud of its rich heritage, tradition and commitment to educational excellence. For over 100 years, Runge ISD has prided itself on improving the quality of education for the students who live within its boundaries. The administration, educators, and staff work hard to ensure the success of each and every student. Runge ISD places a strong emphasis on creating a lasting foundation in mathematics, language arts, social studies, science, foreign language, fine arts and technology. Broadening student's athletic and artistic talents is achieved through the Runge ISD athletics, band, and visual arts departments. Developing young individuals into well-rounded and exceptional adults is a top priority. The foundation of Runge ISD is best shown in the architecture of the school itself. The Runge school was built in 1930, during the art deco period; however the significance of the design dates back to the 12th century. The design was based on the Fleur-de-lis, or flower of the lily, which was a great sign of strength and power during the reign of King Louis VI of France. The fleur-de-lis also had strong religious connotation, during the 14th century; it became the symbol of the trinity and was displayed on all religious garments, scepter, jewelry, and churches throughout France and around the world. The Fleur-de-lis represents not only the trinity, but also overall dominance and victory. That is what sets Runge ISD apart form all other schools; using the one symbol that has transcended throughout the hands of time used this design to create the foundation for education excellence, dominance, and victory.
